God Shows Up in Portland

God showed up in a powerful way tonight.

I just got back from the Rock and Worship Road Show in Portland. Outstanding groups: Sidewalk Prophets, Remedy Drive, Fee, Francesca Battistelli, Family Force 5, and Mercy Me.

From the beginning it was apparent that Bart Millard, Mercy Me’s singer, was having difficulty with his voice. However, with humility and poise, Bart turned to the audience for help with the vocals. In an ironic, divine twist, Bart sang these words from the song, Word of God Speak:

“I’m finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it’s okay
The last thing I need is to be heard
But to hear what You would say
Word of God speak…”

And God did speak – to all of us – with might and clarity. As 10,000 voices sang, Bart wiped the tears from his eyes–and we wiped ours. We were all touched by the unmistakeable presence of God.

In the end, laryngitis became a blessing because God showed up.

And he was glorified!
