God Has a Dream!
“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’”
These immortal words spoken by MLK 48 years ago still resonate in our culture and society today. They reflect the words spoken by the apostle Paul 2000 years ago in his letter to the Galatian churches:
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (3:28).
God loves everyone the same, regardless of race, creed or gender. We may know that intellectually, but it is quite a different thing for us to put God’s love into practice. We need to treat people as if they are loved by God. We can express love to our family and friends by accepting them when they fail; we can give people the benefit of the doubt when they cut us off on the road; and we can show compassion on the poor by giving time and money to them. Instead of judging people or looking down on them, we can give them the gift of dignity and love.
We have made remarkable strides because of men like Jesus and Martin Luther King, but we all have room to grow. God has given us a big dream. Let’s act on it!
What can we do individually to demonstrate that we are all created equal?
How can you show others the love of Jesus?
