The Power of Words

The words we use every day have a powerful impact on others—positively or negatively. The apostle Paul gave sage advice on how to treat others in Colossians 4:5-6:

Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

In ancient times, salt was a valuable commodity that added flavor to food. If we want to have a positive influence on others we must season our conversations with love, humility and grace. Conversely, judgmental, spiteful and critical words tear others down and demean them.

Which words would you want others to use with you? Which words will you use with others?
