Most and Least Christian States 2012

The Association of Statistician of American Religious Bodies recently released the 2010 U.S. Religious Census: Religious Congregations & Membership Study (RCMS). The most Christian city (with a population of a million or more) was revealed to be Salt Lake City, Utah, with 73 percent of the population identifying themselves as Christian. The least Christian city was identified as Portland, Oregon, with 30 percent identifying themselves as Christian.

The least Christian state was Maine, with 27,098 Christian adherents per 100,000 persons. The most Christian state was Utah, with 78,438 Christian adherents per 100,000 people. As a percentage of population, most Christians reside in the South and Midwest, while the states with the least percentage of Christians reside primarily in the West and Northeast.
