Religion Declining in Great Britain

20121215_wom919_0

According to the 2011 Census, the percentage of Jesus followers in Great Britain keeps plummeting, from 72 percent in 2001 to the 59 percent in 2011. Muslims are on the rise, from 3 percent in 2001 to 5 percent in 2011.

As the chart above illustrates, the percentage of people claiming “no religion” increased significantly in practically every area, especially in Wales. However, the percentage of Christians increased in a few small areas.

Great Britain is a mission field. There are many disciples of Jesus there who are doing good work, but they cannot keep ahead of the vast population explosion.

Who will go to Great Britain to help share the Good News?

  1. How was the questions worded? A lot of people when asked would say they follow Jesus but wouldn’t necessarily term themselves as Christians nowadays. These census things can have very oddly worded questions that make people lean a certain way. Just be careful. I could probably look and find a conflicting statistic. That’s what politicians do. 🙂
