Jesus vs. Christians [video]
Why do people esteem Jesus much more highly than Christians? There can be many reasons. Jesus was a sinless man. He also never would have bombed abortion clinics or stoned people to death in the name of religion. No, Jesus actually condemned this kind of behavior. He told the Pharisees,
“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy—full of greed and self-indulgence! You blind Pharisee! First wash the inside of the cup and the dish, and then the outside will become clean, too” (Matt. 23:25-26).
The real question is why are we not more closely following the example of Jesus? Consider putting less emphasis on traditional religious practices and sacraments for a moment and focus on being like Jesus in every way–the way he accepted people from all walks of life, how he treated everyone equally, and how he had compassion on the poor.
If our faith is based on a sincere relationship with Jesus we will be transformed into his likeness (2 Cor. 3:18). When this happens, the word “Christian” will no longer have a negative connotation in people’s minds because they will see Jesus living in us. They will be open to letting him work in their hearts. And they will be transformed into new creatures.
